Q: What is a Pipe Clamp Thermocouple Sensor?
A: A Pipe Clamp Thermocouple Sensor is a temperature sensor designed to attach directly to the outside of a pipe using a clamp, often referred to as a jubilee clip thermocouple. It provides temperature measurement without the need to penetrate the pipe wall.
Q: What is the Pipe Clamp Thermocouple Sensor used for?
A: The Pipe Clamp Thermocouple Sensor is commonly used for boiler temperature monitoring, frost protection systems, trip and safety control systems, pipe surface temperature measurement, and applications where monitoring of pipe contents is required without direct penetration into the process.
Q: What temperature range can the Pipe Clamp Thermocouple Sensor measure?
A: The standard Pipe Clamp Thermocouple Sensor operates over a temperature range of -100°C to +230°C.
Q: Which thermocouple types are available?
A: Common thermocouple options for the Pipe Clamp Thermocouple Sensor include Type K, Type J, Type N, Type T, and Type E. These thermocouple types provide flexibility for a wide range of temperature measurement applications, allowing the sensor to be matched to different operating temperatures and process requirements.
Q: Why use a pipe clamp thermocouple instead of an immersion sensor?
A: A Pipe Clamp Thermocouple Sensor is ideal for applications where pipe penetration is not permitted or where simple, non-invasive installation is required. It is well suited for retrofit projects, situations where pipe surface temperature provides sufficient information for process monitoring, and applications where fast installation and replacement are important.
Q: How can measurement accuracy be improved?
A: For best performance, the sensor should remain covered by thermal insulation after installation. This helps minimise ambient temperature effects and improves the accuracy of the measured pipe temperature.
Q: What cable insulation options are available?
A: Common insulation materials for the Pipe Clamp Thermocouple Sensor include PVC and PTFE. These insulation options can be selected to suit the operating environment and application requirements, providing reliable electrical protection, durability, and performance across a range of industrial temperature measurement applications.
Q: What are the standard construction details?
A: Typical specifications for the Pipe Clamp Thermocouple Sensor include a stainless steel sensing assembly, 7 × 0.2 mm stranded conductor construction, and 50 mm tails with 10 mm tinned wire ends for straightforward termination. These features provide a durable and practical sensor design suitable for industrial temperature monitoring applications.
Q: What customisation options are available?
A: Available options for the Pipe Clamp Thermocouple Sensor include mineral insulated thermocouple versions for temperatures up to 800°C, clamp orientation in any direction relative to the sensor, duplex thermocouple configurations, grounded or insulated junctions, and material certification documentation. These options allow the sensor to be customised for specific installation requirements, temperature ranges, and industrial process applications.
Q: Why choose the Pipe Clamp Thermocouple Sensor?
A: The Pipe Clamp Thermocouple Sensor offers reliable non-invasive pipe temperature measurement with easy installation and replacement. Designed for applications such as boiler monitoring and frost protection systems, it provides temperature measurement from -100°C to +230°C, with optional high-temperature configurations available up to 800°C. The sensor is available with multiple thermocouple type options and flexible cable insulation choices, providing a versatile solution for industrial temperature monitoring. Manufactured to comply with REACH, RoHS, Conflict Minerals, and ISO 9001 quality standards, it delivers dependable performance across a range of process applications.
