What Is Recrystallised Alumina (Alsint)?
Recrystallised alumina (often abbreviated to RCA) is a high-purity ceramic material used for manufacturing protection sheaths, insulators, and support components for high-temperature sensors. Unlike standard aluminous porcelain, recrystallised alumina is engineered for extreme thermal environments, making it ideal for applications that regularly exceed 1500 °C.
Recrystallised alumina is commonly selected for its exceptional temperature resistance, high mechanical strength, and outstanding chemical stability. In industrial processes where long-term exposure to heat, corrosive atmospheres, or thermal cycling is expected, RCA offers reliability and extended service life.
Peak Sensors supplies Recrystallised Alumina Tubes in a wide range of diameters and lengths, including closed-end thermocouple protection tubes and open-both-ends tubes for specialist assemblies.
Specification
- Basic Composition: 99.7% Al₂O₃ (high-purity aluminium oxide)
- Composition: >99.7% high-purity alumina (Al₂O₃)
- Maximum Temperature: Up to 1700 °C
- Density: Approximately 3.9 g/cm³
- Thermal Conductivity: Around 26 W/m·°C
- Mechanical Properties: Strong and durable with excellent chemical and wear resistance
- Common Applications: Kilns, incinerators, furnaces, chemical plants, heat treatment processes
Why Choose Recrystallised Alumina?
- Exceptional High-Temperature Performance – RCA maintains strength and structure at temperatures where aluminous porcelain begins to fail, making it ideal for steelmaking, heat treatment, kiln monitoring, and laboratory furnaces.
- High Purity & Low Contamination – With a purity of nearly 100% alumina, recrystallised alumina resists contamination and is suitable for critical process control applications.
- Superior Chemical & Corrosion Resistance – It withstands aggressive chemical attack, making it dependable in reducing, oxidising, and inert gas atmospheres.
- Thermal Shock Durability – Although not as shock-resistant as aluminous porcelain, RCA offers stable performance under consistent high-temperature cycling.
