        Other information
        • The MicroCal 1 Plus thermocouple simulator and thermometer helps ensure that the frequent checking of thermometer accuracies is a routine operation. The calibrator is designed to simulate a chosen temperature to test thermocouple type K, J, T, R, N, S and E thermometers without the need for specialised equipment or conversion tables. The MicroCal 1 Plus calibrator both measures and simulates temperature.
        • The simulator features a custom 10mm LCD display with an alpha-numeric display line to prompt the user when changing parameters. Selectable parameters include: °C/°F, auto power off – enable/disable, CJC – internal/external and display contrast adjustment.
        • An optional lead set is also available, that comprises of seven leads, one for each thermocouple type K, J, T, R, N, S and E. Each PVC lead is one metre long and incorporates two miniature thermocouple plugs.
        • Each MicroCal 1 Plus is supplied with a one metre PVC type K thermocouple lead with miniature connectors and a five point (type K) UKAS Certificate of Calibration which indicates deviations from standards at the various points.

Q: What is the MicroCal 1 Plus Simulator Thermometer used for?
A: The MicroCal 1 Plus is designed to verify and check the accuracy of thermocouple thermometers without the need for a physical temperature source. It simulates known thermocouple temperatures, allowing users to confirm whether a thermometer is reading correctly and identify any measurement errors.
Q: Which thermocouple types can the MicroCal 1 Plus test?
A: The MicroCal 1 Plus can test and simulate Type K, J, T, R, N, S and E thermocouples. This makes it suitable for a wide range of industrial, laboratory, manufacturing, calibration and process measurement applications.
Q: Does the MicroCal 1 Plus both measure and simulate temperature?
A: Yes. The instrument can both measure incoming thermocouple signals and simulate thermocouple temperatures. This dual functionality allows engineers to verify the performance of thermometers and troubleshoot temperature measurement systems using a single device.
Q: How accurate is the MicroCal 1 Plus?
A: The MicroCal 1 Plus offers an accuracy of up to ±0.3°C, depending on the selected thermocouple type. This level of accuracy makes it suitable for routine calibration checks, maintenance programmes and quality assurance activities.
Q: What are the 12 adjustable temperature points used for?
A: The 12 adjustable preset temperature points allow users to quickly select and simulate commonly used calibration temperatures. This simplifies routine verification checks and helps reduce the time needed to test multiple thermometers or instruments.
Q: When should I use a simulator thermometer instead of a dry-well calibrator?
A: A simulator thermometer is ideal when you want to test the electronic performance of a thermocouple thermometer without generating a physical temperature. A dry-well calibrator is more suitable when the entire sensor, probe and measuring system need to be verified using an actual temperature source.
Q: Can the MicroCal 1 Plus be used for field calibration work?
A: Yes. The unit is compact, lightweight and battery powered, making it well suited for on-site calibration checks, maintenance visits and field service work. With a weight of approximately 220g and battery life of up to 300 hours, it is highly portable.
Q: Which industries commonly use thermocouple simulator thermometers?
A: Thermocouple simulators are commonly used in manufacturing, food processing, pharmaceuticals, laboratories, HVAC, utilities, calibration laboratories and industrial maintenance departments where thermocouple thermometers require regular verification.
Q: Does the MicroCal 1 Plus include calibration certification?
A: Yes. The unit is supplied with a 5-point UKAS Calibration Certificate for Type K thermocouple verification. This provides traceable calibration data and supports quality management systems, audits and documented calibration procedures.
Q: Why would I choose the MicroCal 1 Plus instead of sending thermometers away for calibration?
A: The MicroCal 1 Plus allows users to perform frequent in-house accuracy checks, helping identify faulty or drifting thermometers before they affect processes. This can reduce downtime, improve confidence in measurements and minimise the need for routine external testing between formal calibration intervals.
